LGSL at a glance…..

Mission and Goals: Our mission is to provide organized slow-pitch softball for young women in our community. Our goals are for young women to: develop lifelong physical, social, mental, sportswomanship, and leadership abilities; experience the joy that comes from both individual effort and team work; and learn to balance performance results, enjoyment, and learning in all pursuits.

Founded: Founded in 1973, LGSL became a Type A not-for-profit corporation in 1993.

Number of Participants: In 2008, 362 girls participated on 27 teams. Each team has a manager and several assistants and coaches.

Area Served: LGSL serves a significant portion of the Liverpool Central School District, the Village of Liverpool, North Syracuse School District, the Village of North Syracuse and the Town of Salina. Typically, participants are from Allen Road, Bear Road, Chestnut Hill, Donlin Drive, Liverpool, Longbranch, Nate Perry and Soule Road Elementary Schools; Liverpool, North Syracuse and Chestnut Hill Middle Schools and Junior Highs; and Liverpool and North Syracuse High School.

League Administration: A volunteer board, which elects its executive officers and appoints others, oversees all league operations. The board meets monthly September through July with additional meetings to address specific events / issues. Involvement in board activities is readily open to all league parents on a self-nominating basis. See handy menu for names of representatives and minutes of recent meetings.

Operating Costs: Sponsorship fees, participant registration fees, and donations are used to meet
league costs (insurance, umpire fees, equipment, etc.) and to provide each girl with a team photo and
uniform shirt that bears the sponsor’s name.

Communication and Publicity: League information is printed regularly in area newspapers, mailed directly to participants, distributed in schools and through coaches. LGSL's is on the web at: www.lgsl.org

A Field of Our Own: Beginning in 1997, LGSL started play and practice at its home field complex at the Town of Salina’s Electronics Park and at fields provided by the Liverpool School District. A Field of Our Own update is available at web.syr.edu/~cspuches/lgsl.htm
